What is theta?
Theta refers to slower brain waves. Brain waves can be measured in cycles per second. Slower brain waves, Alpha and theta, allow for the brain to re-organize, process and learn. The adult brain typically cycles at about 15 to 30 Hz, or cycles per second = Beta. Sometimes it operates even faster up to 100 cycles per second = Gamma. Too much of these faster brain waves can Result in anxiety, high arousal, inability to relax and/or stress.
The good news is, The brain slows down to naturally to Alpha and theta twice a day, right before sleep and right as we are waking up in the morning. We can optimize the benefits of our brains being in alpha and Theta if we “hold a space for theta.” I am talking about intentionally practicing mindfulness just before bed and just as we get up in the morning. If we are intentional with our thoughts and our mindset, right before bed and right as we wake up in the morning, when we are in alpha or Theta, we can optimize learning and reset. During these two times of day we are bridging the subconscious and conscious mind. If we are intentional with this time we cant get more aligned.
Scientists, psychologists, healers and light workers alike are beginning to focus on these two states of mind. There is tons of work and research being done to train the brain to slow down, particularly in times of high stress. Join me in this 30 day journey of mental cleansing and reset. It takes Time to create new habits. Give yourself 30 days of “holding a space for theta“ and watch as you start to rewire your brain!
